This Android phone charges completely from zero in under ten minutes.

Realme may have just unveiled the phone of your dreams if you frequently find that your phone's battery indicator turns red just before you leave the house.

The GT Neo 5, a new smartphone with what Chinese manufacturer Realme claims is the fastest charging rate on the market, has just been unveiled by the company. Thanks to its support for 240W fast charging, the smartphone, according to GSM Arena(opens in new tab), can fully recharge from zero juice in just nine and a half minutes.

The GT Neo 5 can reach 20 percent in just 80 seconds, and the 4,600mAh battery can charge to half capacity in a measly four minutes, which is ideal if you need a quick boost before rushing to catch that early-morning train.

The 240W fast charging technology is similar to that displayed by Oppo, a sister company of Realme, at the 2017 Mobile World Congress expo, but it has yet to be seen on any of that brand's smartphones.

The new phone isn't short on features, either, with a tasty 6.74-inch 10-bit, 2772 x 1240 resolution AMOLED screen and a 144Hz refresh rate. It has an eye-catching design with a glowing rectangle on the back and an equally quick Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU.

The device runs Android 13 with Realme's UI 4.0 overlay on top. The punch-hole selfie camera has a 16MP Samsung sensor, and the main camera on the back has a 50MP 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 sensor.

The bad news is that there is no official release date for the Realme GT Neo 5, and it is only currently planned to be sold in China.

Two different configurations of the device are planned, with the "slower" 150W charging option with the larger 5,000mAh battery expected to cost 2,599 yuan (about $383 or £315) and include 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Unsurprisingly, the more expensive of the two is the lightning-quick 240W model, with prices starting at 3,199 yuan (roughly $472 or £390) for 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

The 240W fast charging technology appears to be the same as what Oppo, a sister company of Realme, demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress expo last year, but has yet to be seen on any of the latter brand's smartphones.

The new phone isn't short on features, either, with a tasty 6.74-inch 10-bit, 2772 x 1240 resolution AMOLED screen that boasts a 144Hz refresh rate and an equally quick Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU. It also has an eye-catching design with a glowing rectangle on the back.

The disappointing news is that there is no confirmed release date for the Realme GT Neo 5 outside of China at this time.

A peek into a future that is rapidly developing.

We are extremely excited about the introduction of 240W fast charging, despite the fact that the GT Neo 5 is likely to have a wall wart that will undoubtedly take up more space in your backpack than the convenient 2.5V charger you are currently using.

We're intrigued to see how that 4,600mAh pack manages to hold up with what appears to be a power-hungry processor and screen because juicing up at these speeds is, of course, only meaningful when actual battery life is solid.

The Realme GT Neo 5 is probably going to be one of the best phones available if it can combine energy efficiency with those incredibly fast charging times. When the phone is released later this year, we'll give you all the details.
